Promises Claimed and Calling Confirmed
🎥 This Week’s Sermon Moment
Claim the Promise and Make Every Effort to Grow
Timestamp: 01:07:37 – 01:08:53
Whatever it may be, claim the promise. God has not taken back, nor will he ever take back a promise of his.
Pastor Jay urges believers to trust that God has not withdrawn His promises while also rejecting spiritual laziness. The clip transitions naturally into the call to make every effort to grow in grace.
Scripture Focus
2 Peter 1:1-11
Peter reminds believers that God’s divine power has already given everything needed for life and godliness through the knowledge of Jesus Christ.
Promises Claimed and Calling Confirmed
Pastor Jay’s message calls believers to hold tightly to God’s truth and continue growing in grace. The central question is both simple and searching: Are we still hungry for God? It is possible to attend worship, remember a testimony, and remain near the activity of the church while quietly allowing spiritual growth to stop.
Peter writes to ordinary believers, yet he reminds them that their faith is precious because it comes through the righteousness of Jesus Christ. Every believer has access to the same Savior and the same divine provision. In Christ, God has given His people all things that pertain to life and godliness.
Everything you need is already yours.
God’s promises are not fragile human promises. They are great, precious, and trustworthy because the God who gives them is faithful. In hardship, believers are invited to claim God’s promises and pray His Word back to Him with confidence.
Make Every Effort to Grow
God’s grace is never permission for spiritual laziness. Grace moves believers toward faithful effort. Peter calls Christians to add to faith virtue, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness, and love.
- Virtue: Living in a way that reflects what we say we believe.
- Knowledge: Growing in understanding of God’s Word.
- Self-control: Saying no to sinful desires, tempers, and impulses.
- Perseverance: Continuing faithfully when life is difficult.
- Godliness: Keeping God at the center of daily life.
- Brotherly kindness: Showing genuine care for God’s family.
- Love: Practicing the self-giving love that crowns every other quality.
These qualities are not meant to appear only once. They are to abound. Spiritual growth is a daily investment that guards believers against complacency, false teaching, and an unfruitful faith.
A Fruitful Life and a Secure Hope
Making our calling and election sure does not mean earning salvation. Salvation is the work of God’s grace through Jesus Christ. A growing, fruitful life is evidence of the salvation Christ has already secured.
The fruit we bear is not the payment for salvation. It’s the receipts of the debt paid in full by Jesus Christ.
Jesus is the foundation of every promise, blessing, and power available to believers. He died for sin, rose in victory, intercedes for His people, keeps them from stumbling, and is coming again. Therefore, let us keep adding to our faith, pressing toward maturity, and living for God’s glory.
