Wanting for Wisdom
🎥 This Week’s Sermon Moment
The Obstacle to God’s Wisdom
Timestamp: 00:54:30 – 00:55:46
“The obstacle is never God’s generosity. The obstacle is our double-mindedness.”
Dr. Jones explains that God’s generosity is not the obstacle to receiving wisdom; the obstacle is a divided heart that asks for God’s direction while trying to control the outcome. He calls listeners to trust God’s will and commit to following the direction they seek.
Scripture Focus: James 1:5-8
James teaches that when we need wisdom, we can ask our generous God, who gives without rebuke. Yet we are also called to ask in faith, trusting God alone rather than living with divided loyalty.
Wanting for Wisdom
Every day brings decisions. Some are small, while others affect our relationships, our future, and how we respond to unexpected trials. In these moments, more information is not always what we need. We need wisdom: the ability to see life from God’s perspective and respond in a way that honors Him.
God’s wisdom is accessible. He is not annoyed when His children need guidance, and He does not shame us for asking. James presents God as a generous giver who freely supplies wisdom to those who come to Him in believing prayer.
Wisdom begins with humility. We must admit that we do not know everything and that our own understanding is limited. Knowledge matters, but knowledge without the fear of the Lord can still lead to foolish choices. True wisdom is rooted in reverence for God and is found in Jesus Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
The Danger of Divided Loyalty
James also warns that a divided heart is unstable. It is possible to ask God for direction while already deciding that we will do what we want. It is possible to pray for wisdom and then let worry, cultural pressure, selfish desire, or the opinions of others control our next step.
The obstacle is never God’s generosity. The obstacle is our double-mindedness. God calls us to trust Him even when we cannot trace every detail of His plan. His wisdom is not a do-it-yourself project. We are called to seek Him as our ultimate authority.
Take the Next Step
- Bring your decisions to God in prayer.
- Ask Him for wisdom with humility and faith.
- Examine any divided loyalties in your heart.
- Trust God’s answer even when it challenges your preferred plan.
- Choose to follow God’s direction consistently.
“The wisdom you need to face life’s trials is only a prayer away.”
God invites you to ask boldly, trust completely, and move consistently in His wisdom.
