Pressing On Toward Promised Perfection

Scripture Focus

Philippians 3:20-21

But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for him to return as our savior. He will take our weak mortal bodies and change them into glorious bodies like his own, using the same power with which he will bring everything under his control.

Devotional Thought

As believers, we live in the tension between who we are and who God is shaping us to become. The Apostle Paul admitted he had not already reached perfection, yet he refused to stop pressing forward. That honesty frees us to admit our own imperfections without surrendering our hope.

Acknowledging imperfection is not weakness; it is the starting line of growth. When we confess our shortcomings, we invite God to continue His transforming work. Shame hides. Pride pretends. But humility grows.

Paul describes the Christian life as pressing toward a goal. This requires intention. We pray even when distracted. We open Scripture even when busy. We forgive even when it costs us. We lean forward spiritually instead of settling into routine.

Yet our effort does not create our perfection. Christ does. The same power that raised Jesus from the dead will transform our weak mortal bodies into glorious bodies like His own. Our future glorification is guaranteed in God’s plan.

So today, press on with hope. You are not perfect yet, but you are promised transformation. The work God began in you, He will complete.
