Choosing the Towel Over the Title

Scripture Focus

Philippians 2:5 – You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.

Devotional Thought

Philippians 2 invites us into a kingdom mindset that runs counter to everything our culture promotes. We are surrounded by messages that tell us to climb higher, promote ourselves, protect our image, and secure our place at the top. Yet Scripture gives us a different pattern. In God’s kingdom, the way up is down.

Paul’s words are clear: we are to have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. Jesus did not cling to His divine privileges. He emptied Himself, took the form of a servant, and humbled Himself in obedience to the Father—even to death on a cross.

The cross was public and painful, yet Jesus embraced it for our sake. The Creator served the created. The King chose the towel over the title. That is the pattern for our lives.

Humility is not weakness. It is strength under control. It is choosing to place others before ourselves and trusting God with our future. In God’s order, humility comes before honor.

As citizens of heaven, we do not have to grasp for recognition. We can serve faithfully and trust that the Father sees and rewards in His time.
